GRADE 10

The Admissions Office at UWC ISAK Japan is responsible for selecting students exclusively for Grade 10 entry as part of our 3-year high school program (Grades 10-12).

If you wish to apply to UWC ISAK Japan for Grade 10 enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year, you must meet both of the following criteria:

  • You are currently enrolled in the equivalent of US Grade 9 / UK Year 10 / Japanese middle school Grade 3 and you will complete this grade by August 2023.
  • You were born between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2008.

If you do not meet both criteria, we will not be able to accept your application for 2023 Grade 10 enrollment.

If you are currently in US Grade 10 or equivalent and/or were born before January 1, 2007, you are not eligible to apply for Grade 10 entry. Please see the information below regarding how to apply for Grade 11.

If you are eligible to apply to UWC through your UWC national committee, you are not eligible to apply directly to UWC ISAK Japan for Grade 10 entry.

GRADE 11

UWC ISAK Japan does not accept direct applications for Grade 11 enrollment. If you are already in Grade 10 and would like to apply to UWC, you have two options for applying:

  • Apply through your UWC national committee
  • If you are able to pay full school fees you also have the option to apply through the Global Selection Programme (GSP)

How to apply through your UWC national committee: Please contact your UWC national committee for information regarding eligibility and the application process and timeline.

How to apply through GSP: See our Global Selection Programme page for more information.

Note that you can only apply through one application path per year. In other words, you cannot apply to both your national committee and GSP in the same year. Please review the information and choose the path that best matches your needs.

IMPORTANT: If you are in Grade 8 or younger and/or you were born in or after the year 2009, you are not yet eligible to apply to UWC ISAK Japan for Grade 10 entry. Please check your eligibility for other UWC ISAK Japan programs and register your information to our prospective student mailing list so that we can keep you updated on UWC ISAK Japan events and activities. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please contact the admissions team.

Due to the nature of the two-year IB Diploma Programme, we are not able to accept applications for Grade 12 entry or for mid-year transfers.

All of our events for the current admissions season are fully booked up. We will be focusing our time on those currently working on applications, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Admission team at [email protected]

If you were unable to join any of our online or in-person events, we encourage you to watch this year's Online Open Campus and follow us on social media for content relevant to you.

The online application for 2024 entry will be available in September 15, 2023.

UWC ISAK Japan uses an online application process.

Step 1: Visit the application website and read through the information provided. Start collecting documents and identifying who you will ask to write your letters of recommendation (see below).

Step 2: Create an account for our online application system. If you already have a UWC ISAK Japan account on SurveyMonkey Apply (such as if you applied for UWC ISAK Japan Summer School), you do not need to create a new account. Important: Make sure to record and remember the email and password used for your account.

Step 3: Submit the registration form. This is a simple form that will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. After submitting this form, the Office of Admissions will verify your eligibility for Grade 10 entry (within one week of submission).

Step 4: If your eligibility is confirmed, you will receive an email with a link to access the full online application form. Please check your spam/junk email folder if you do not receive the email. Click on the link and you will be directed to the application form.

Step 5: The full application consists of several sections; some must be completed by you, the applicant, and some must be completed by your parent or guardian. You will also be asked to upload copies of the required documents. In addition to answering several short-answer (up to 250 words) and 3 long-answer (up to 500 word) questions, you will also need to submit a video of yourself (maximum 2 minutes). In order to complete these tasks to the best possible standard you should allow plenty of time to complete your application.

Step 6: You will be asked to review your full application before submission. Applications will be processed by the Office of Admissions and First Round Results shared by email by the deadline for your relevant application schedule.

Required Documents

You will need to submit the following items as part of the online application. The deadline for all of these is the same as the deadline for the online application. More detailed information regarding required documents is provided in the online application.

  1. Academic transcripts for the current year and two previous years
  2. Two letters of recommendation - We would like you to submit one academic letter of recommendation from a teacher and one personal letter of recommendation from an adult who knows you well (piano teacher, sports team coach, leader of a volunteer organization, etc.). Both recommenders will need to complete our online recommendation form. The letters can be submitted in English or Japanese, and
  3. OPTIONAL: Financial Assistance Request Form and supporting documents. Important: if you plan to apply for financial assistance, please see our School Fees & Financial Assistance page for complete details
  4. Non-refundable application fee (20,000 JPY)*

*Fee Waiver: Applicants will be considered for an application fee waiver, based on their annual household income. See the online application instructions for more information.

Applicants who are successful after the First Round will be invited to participate in the final assessment, consisting of an interview and additional selection activities. This assessment will be conducted online for both Schedule A and Schedule B applicants.
