Classrooms

Classrooms have been designed with large windows and high ceilings to emphasize the beauty of the changing seasons, while brightening the interior with natural sunlight. Many students say they feel more creative, inspired and energized by the natural light! Careful consideration has been put into the environmental aspects of campus buildings. Thoughtfully, each building serves a variety of purposes, minimizing the campus’s overall footprint. Buildings also feature solar panels and eco-friendly bamboo flooring.

School Buildings

The Asama Building, named after the nearby volcano, is a two-story building that houses our cafeteria, school lounge and several classrooms. It is a hub of activity during the day and during warm weather, the beautiful deck is a popular place to eat, relax, study, and hang out with friends.

The Kamiyama Academic Center (“KAC”) is a state of the art, light-filled building includes classrooms, a library/information center, study areas, meeting rooms, and the main school office. KAC has already become one of the most popular places to study on campus, and it is easy to understand why! Comfy furniture and cozy meeting spaces make this the perfect place to open a book (or a computer) and get to work.

Our campus is currently expanding and we will soon be opening a Multi-Purpose Center, a Creative Center, and a Health & Wellness Center.

Gymnasium & Honda Sports Field

Our beautiful gymnasium includes a full basketball court, and provides indoor space where students can enjoy sports and other physical activity throughout the year.

When the weather permits (most of the school year), students can also use our natural-grass Honda sports field and surrounding grounds for outdoor recreation, including trail running.

Additionally, Karuizawa is home to Kazakoshi Park–a year-round sports park in Karuizawa available to students and faculty. Kazakoshi Park and the local area have world-class facilities for tennis, swimming, golf, ice hockey, speed skating, curling, downhill skiing and snowboarding, and some of the best hiking in Japan.
