A Life-Changing Experience!
UWC ISAK Japan’s Summer School is an exciting opportunity for middle school students from around the world to live and learn together on our beautiful campus in Karuizawa, Japan.
Summer School brings together bright, curious, motivated young people (ages 13-14) from a diverse range of countries, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds for what many students say is a “life-changing experience.”
Summer School focuses on leadership, mindfulness and design innovation, enabling students to become aware of themselves and others, to identify and solve problems individually and with a team, and to gain the inner strength necessary to overcome various real-world challenges. Students become more globally-minded as they develop the skills and confidence needed to become change-makers who can make a positive impact for the greater good.

“ The most important thing that I learned is how to socialize with different kinds of people and use the diversity in a positive way. I also learned that respecting others opinions is an important thing and sharing your own opinion is also important. I had the best time here, so I would like to thank for that and I hope that I will be able to come back soon.”
Christina, Taiwan / Singapore
“ The overall summer school experience is probably one of the best two weeks of my life. Even though I go to an international school, I haven’t met a group so bright and so diverse as this one. Everyone here is so hard working, so talented, so strong, but I was especially grateful for having the Japanese kids who couldn’t speak English that well, because they showed me how much I could do, and I really respect them. All the teachers and counselors were so nice, caring, funny and so much more – I just couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Ethan, Australia / Hong Kong
“I learned that UWC ISAK Japan is a place of diversity where you could grow and change. I also learned that people accept your flaws and it was a kind and accepting community. This is a place where you can enhance your understanding of cultures and community.”
Yuina, Japan / Hong Kong
“ It was the best summer school ever! I enjoyed a lot, and learned a lot. I loved all of the teachers, classes, and other activities. Friends around me were very mindful, and each of them had a very strong opinion about global issues and other problems in the world. I had a very joyful time listening to those. Again, thank you for giving me this opportunity, and I hope students coming next year will have same experience.”
