At UWC ISAK Japan, we are more than a high school; we aim to create a community of visionaries that can make a positive impact on society. Through our commitment to empowering transformational leaders who explore new frontiers, we share our knowledge and experience with education entrepreneurs, leaders, and policymakers to promote practical policy proposals and diverse education options.
Advancing Education Agenda
We are working on raising awareness about the need for greater recognition of diversity and creating new options within the Japanese education system. To achieve this, we publish articles based on comparisons with other countries and analyses of international data, as well as hold events targeting educators and parents. Our goal is to provide actionable insights that can bring about real change, and we are involved in the management of organizations that support this mission.
Supporting Changemakers in Education
HatchEdu
HatchEdu is a project launched in 2019 to support educational entrepreneurs in Japan. Our goal is to accelerate the growth of educational businesses in order to create diverse educational options that will help children realize a full and fulfilling life. HatchEdu also creates a community for professionals who share the same goals and are willing to volunteer their skills in education. Additionally, the project hosts online events with guest speakers from Japan and abroad who are involved in educational entrepreneurship.
Policy Recommendations
Starting with recommendations to align the International Baccalaureate curriculum with the Japanese education system, we have been advocating for and sharing ideas on various themes concerning education policy in Japan, including higher education and international student issues. We provide opportunities for dialogue through diverse panelist events involving policymakers, school administrators, and private education leaders.

Gifted Learners
Our school’s representative director, Lin Kobayashi, serves as a board member of Education Beyond, a non-profit organization that supports “advanced learners” in Japan. Since 2018, we have also been introducing gifted education programs overseas. In 2022, we held a large-scale online event featuring a guest speaker from the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. We are committed to promoting gifted education and supporting advanced learners to reach their full potential.
Gender Gap
We are addressing the gender gap issue in Japan, where the difference in the number of men and women entering four-year universities is significant compared to other developed countries, especially in the STEM field. Through our article releases and events, we are bringing attention to this problem and working to raise awareness.
Introducing cutting-edge education approaches from abroad
We believe that having an “outside-in” perspective is essential to expanding our vision and approaching education with a rich imagination. With that in mind, we introduce innovative and cutting-edge schools and programs from around the world that are pushing the boundaries of education. We aim to highlight what is possible in education and inspire our community to reimagine what they can achieve.
