ISAK Student Participates in South Korean GECMUN Conference

Selin at GECMUNWhile many ISAK students relaxed or traveled home over February break, G-11 student, Selin, used the time off to pursue a personal passion – politics and debate! Selin attended the Global Education City Model United Nations (GECMUN) conference in Jeju Island, South Korea.

“From the 19th to the 21st of February I participated in the Global Education City Model United Nations (GECMUN) conference in Jeju Island, South Korea. A Model UN conference is one where students take on the roles of delegates of different United Nations countries and represent their assigned countries in different international bodies.

During GECMUN, I took on the role of the delegate of Denmark in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO. The committee I was in was a crisis committee, so we had to solve a fictional problem based on real world events, which for us was that Russia had invaded and annexed the whole of Ukraine and was moving on to invade Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. We as a committee had to think of ways in which we could defeat the expansion of Russia into Europe. Overall it was an amazing experience and I hope to be able to participate in this conference again next year.”

We love seeing our students pursue their passions, especially when they dovetail so well with the values of our school.  What a great way to spend the school holiday!
