Fall Project Week – Change-makers in Action!

ISAK’s Project Week is a unique time of year for students to build and practice their leadership skills. Classes are halted, and students can be found doing a variety of things from meditation and workshops to giving presentations and traveling abroad–all depending on their grade level or the project they are working on.

This year’s Fall Project Week challenged our students in a variety of ways. Here are some highlights from each grade:

G-10 Project Week

Project Week for G-10 was devoted to practicing the core ISAK leadership principles of mindfulness and discovering what is most important. Guest facilitators Patrick Cook-Deegan and Alexx Temeña encouraged G-10 students to be “Wayfinders”  in hopes of equipping students with the tools and behaviors to help them explore their purpose and what is important to them. Activities included meditation, self and group reflection, and shelter building, with the week culminating in a group hike.

G-11 Project Week

G-11 teams spent Fall Project Week developing concrete objectives for the projects they hope to pursue for the next two years. The week was dedicated to solidifying teamwork and project purpose, learning about making a business plan, and testing ideas. Some groups took short trips off campus to places including Kiso and Tokyo to investigate and test ideas, while others ran small workshops on campus.

At the end of the week, all of the groups presented a portfolio and pitched their ideas to business professionals from Cool Japan Fund, SCSK, and Recruit Holdings for judging and feedback.

G-12 Project Week

Fall Project Week was the final project week for G-12 groups to take direct action and fulfill their project missions. Many groups travelled abroad to complete their goals, with a few groups working on their projects locally. Some projects will end this year, while others, such as Project Nepal, will be continued by a team of G-11 students next year.
