Greetings from Karuizawa!
My apologies for the lateness of this newsletter. I was in Yangon, Myanmar for a student recruitment trip since last Thursday and just returned to ISAK.
The first semester will be over on Friday, wow. Our Grade 11 students will be halfway through their ISAK career — incredible! Our G10 students have a regular class schedule this week, and have been doing end of term papers, projects and tests over the last few weeks. Our G11 students have no classes this week — instead they’re sitting for internal exams as part of the IB experience. There are two exam periods per day, and depending on the courses students are taking, they have either one or two exams per day. It’s an intense experience but the modified schedule provides them lots of time to review between exams.
In the meantime, students are also starting to pack, organize and clean in preparation for their departure on Friday night or Saturday. Our teachers are helping to ensure that students do a little each day instead of waiting until the last minute.
Information has been distributed to students about documents for overseas travel and returning to ISAK on their own. In January we’ll be in touch with students to let them know about shuttle service from Shinano-Oiwake to ISAK. Students can sign up for the van or return to campus on their own (sometimes students make arrangements with each other to travel together from the airport or Tokyo). Reservations have been booked for students who requested an airport taxi on Friday/Saturday; in a few days the taxi company will contact us with pick-up times for each person based on their flight departure time. We are making sure all students arrive at the airport with plenty of time to make their flights, so there is no need to worry!
We wish everyone a safe and happy winter break and Happy Holidays to you all!
-Ms. Murabayashi, ISAK Assistant Head of School
