Learning About True Leadership

In Leadership class earlier this week, we were delighted to see one student spontaneously demonstrating the type of leadership that ISAK is aiming to foster. After the first half of the session, students were given the opportunity to share what they had learned with their classmates. One boy understood the concepts, but was having difficulties sharing his ideas in front of the class. Following a period of silence, one girl said in a small voice, “Don’t worry. It’s OK. Go for it,” giving him the encouragement to go on.

At ISAK, leadership involves being able to notice issues, take responsibility and help one another — skills that anyone can develop. Dave Mochel, the instructor for the class, told students that “When somebody is taking a risk, true leadership involves understanding that person’s feelings and giving them the encouragement they need to succeed.”
