“Is genetically modified food the ultimate solution for hunger?”
This is one of the themes for the science class at the Summer School.
In the the first science lesson, students learned about the problem of hunger around the world. They discussed what causes this problem, who falls victim to it, as well as its wider repercussions.
One female student from Nepal explained that in her country, income inequalities between genders prevent women from earning enough money to buy food, and thus they most easily fall victim to hunger.
From the next lesson, students will conduct experiments and learn about genetic modification, whilst thinking about whether this method is an appropriate solution to hunger.
