Ms. Murabayashi’s Update – May 15

Greetings from Karuizawa!

The weather has been absolutely amazing lately, with bright sunny skies and warm (sometimes hot!) days. It’s a bit unusual but we’re not complaining 🙂  Amazingly, the cicadas have started their buzzing – this usually happens later in the summer. What a year!

Last night our fledgling theater arts club held their second performance of the year, “Shorts.”  It was great fun and a wonderful way to end the year!  As a result of all the work and guidance that Mr. Austin gave the students, they named the theater (stage) after him, which was very fitting and very moving. Kudos to the students: G10s Viktor, Anne, Mashal, Nora, Tiyi, Kunawat, Hannah, Bach, Mari, Estella and Maya and G11s Hadi, Ata, Sam and Haruka!

Theatre ClubOn Sunday, May 15, four of our music students performed with the Karuizawa Community Orchestra: Mao, Ibuki, Kanna and Yuma (all G11).  Read more about the concert and watch a video here.On Friday, May 13, five students participated in an event in Tokyo called “Slush Asia.”  This was a place for entrepreneurs and startups from all over Asia to share and present their ideas and projects, as well as to build relationships with each other. Read more about it here.

It’s always great to get off campus for a change of pace.  Here’s a photo submitted by Ashley (G11) of her, Wes, Sam studying for exams at Naka-Karuizawa library. This week students have time to study for their exams and review with their teachers.

LibraryExams begin on Wednesday for G-11 students; G-10 students have classes interspersed with exams and final projects.  Our exam period runs through, and then students will spend Wednesday,Thursday and Friday wrapping up their classes, packing and cleaning before departing on Friday for the summer.  The end of the year is here already – I can’t believe it.

Have a great week!
Ms. Murabayashi, ISAK Assistant Head of School
