Greetings from Karuizawa!
The campus is a bit quiet today, as students have left for the holiday or have gone out on a day trip. The weather is quite nice – 8 degrees and sunny. Rain is expected for much of tomorrow – no fun, but it should help melt some of the remaining snow and ice.
Besides taking day trips, the students who have remained on campus are going to the grocery store, taking walks, sleeping, studying, and playing games 🙂 One group of students organized a ski trip to a local mountain yesterday – because it was a weekday they had the entire mountain to themselves. They were quite happily tired when they returned to ISAK!

Thanks to the efforts of Takano-sensei, one of our school nurses, a group of G11 students are participating in a medical program at Saku Hospital this week. It’s an incredible opportunity to meet many doctors, patients, and even spend the night with a local family to see “real life” Japan. We’ll share some photos next week!
Mr. Jemison treated the entire school to bowling on Wednesday afternoon, and it was a perfect way to transition into the holiday. There were lots of smiles all around. Thanks to Koki (G11) for his efforts to organize it (what a learning experience!).
The 1st Annual Roommate Photo Contest was a success! Over half the rooms participated and Viktor (G10) and Bach (G10) were the winners (random drawing) of a snack basket for their room. Please see this link for more information and the roommate photos.
Next Friday, February 26, a group of universities from the US will visit ISAK. They are part of a group called “Colleges that Change Lives.” We’re very excited to host these representatives as their schools are very similar to ISAK. As always, these visits are a great opportunity for our students to learn about universities and personally meet the admissions representatives!
As you know, our first Parents’ Weekend will occur at ISAK on April 29-30. We’re thrilled to welcome as many of you who can make it! If you live overseas or if attending will be difficult for any reason, please know that this is NOT a required event, and while we hope it will be fun and informative, you will not miss anything important if you can’t make it. Please do not go out of your way financially or otherwise to attend.
