Welcome to our Head of School’s message page! Here, you’ll find a warm and inviting welcome from Arden Tyoschin, our Head of School at UWC ISAK Japan. Read on and discover the unique spirit that defines our community.
Welcome to UWC ISAK Japan!
Schools are complex, living ecosystems, and UWC ISAK Japan is no exception. Where I feel we are exceptional, however, is the sense of hope for our future based firmly in the identity of our school. Allow me to share a number of components that give me this feeling of hope.
As members of the United World Colleges movement, we are committed to making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future – our WHY.
Our own unique and aspirational mission statement guides on on the HOW:
UWC ISAK Japan’s Mission Statement
These mission statements are living statements, central to how we act and learn as students, faculty and staff, and we are proud of the fact that as a community we continually reference these statements that drive our decision-making.
We take particular pride in our truly diverse community, with over 80 student nationalities and 70% of our students receiving some level of financial assistance, bringing together students from intentionally diverse backgrounds and experiences.
We are an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme school, with acceptances at universities around the world, and our Grade 10 programme is premised not only on being a pre-IB learning experience, but more importantly on our signature leadership and entrepreneurship programme.
We are a fully residential international school, located on the stunning slopes of Mount Asama in beautiful Karuizawa, Nagano.
Each of these components is useful and interesting in their own right. The true magic of UWC ISAK Japan, however, comes from the convergence of all of these elements, resulting in a boldly diverse student and alumni body that takes audacious initiative, making positive impacts both within and beyond the school. To read more about how this looks in action, I invite you to read about some of our student and alumni changemakers.
I invite you to explore our website, our school’s programmes, and the practical information within its pages and to consider the unique learning experiences that UWC ISAK Japan offers. I anticipate that this also gives you a sense of hope, and a desire to join us.
Sincerely,
Arden Tyoschin
