Ms. Murabayashi’s Update – November 6

 Greetings from Karuizawa!

The streak of fantastic fall weather continues with warm and sunny days and cool nights. Lately there has been some frost on the ground in the morning – yikes! But it’s been warm enough during the day that a long-sleeved top is sufficient.

We had a busy weekend with the Halloween Festival, which was a big success! Our students dressed up, created a haunted house, and did face-painting with the elementary school students who visited. You can read more about it and see pictures here.

On Monday we had the honor of hosting Princess Takamadonomiya, a member of the Japanese Imperial Family, who wowed us with her stories of living overseas and her thoughtful insights into culture and Japan. She speaks English fluently and is at ease in front of a crowd.

Mr. Jemison declared Tuesday a school holiday this week — it was a big surprise for everyone and a welcome break after such a busy weekend! The students spent the day sleeping, doing homework, running errands like going to the supermarket, and relaxing. On Wednesday Waseda University [Japan] representatives gave a presentation about their school’s English language program. It was well-attended by our students.

Imagine… if there was an ISAK lower school!

Dear Friends of UWC ISAK,

UWC ISAK is celebrating its 10th anniversary! We are proud of where we’ve come from, and we are excited about the next decade.

At this important milestone, we are wondering – in pursuit of broadening our impact, could an ISAK Lower School be considered as one of the options and would it be feasible? A school that embraces ISAK values and vision for a better future?
