One shaped by diversity, courage, and the belief that young people can create positive change.

To help make ISAK’s founding story accessible to a wider audience, a group of students launched Changemakers, an English-language translation of the Japanese book Chairo no Shimauma Sekai wo Kaeru, which shares Lin Kobayashi’s perspective on the creation of our school. The project also includes a newly written chapter about ISAK’s integration into the UWC movement.
By bridging language and cultural gaps, the student-led effort aims to deepen understanding of ISAK’s origins and strengthen shared appreciation for our mission. We invite you to download and explore Changemakers, a resource created by students, for the community.
Explore where our school came from and the global UWC movement we became part of along the way.
United World Colleges (UWC) is a global movement comprising 18 schools and colleges across four continents, national committees and selection contacts in more than 158 countries, and over 85,000 alumni making an impact in every corner of the world. UWC International is governed by the International Board and UWC Council, with an International Office based in London.
UWC’s mission is clear: to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

In June 2024, the UWC International Board approved UWC 2030, a bold strategy developed over 18 months through consultation across the entire UWC community. Building on the progress of the previous strategy, it broadens UWC’s focus beyond transformative education for its own students toward becoming a global voice for values-based education rooted in diversity, peace, and sustainability.
Four words guide the work ahead: Seek, Educate, Connect and Amplify. Together, they reflect what matters most across the UWC family, the national committee system that selects students from over 150 countries and territories, the schools and colleges, the alumni network, and the partners and donors who make it possible.
UWC ISAK Japan is proud to be part of this movement and this direction.
