UWC ISAK Japan
Our fees are straightforward.
So is our assistance.

The student body at ISAK is built to reflect the world as it actually is. That means around 70% of students receive need-based financial assistance. It’s one of the things that makes ISAK genuinely different from most international schools.

If the fees seem out of reach, keep reading.

*A note on the IB Years Fee

What's Included?

Our annual fee covers everything that defines the UWC ISAK experience:

Tuition

Academic courses, assessments, and learning materials

Accommodation and meals

Full residential boarding with three meals (including vegetarian, health-related dietary, and religious options) and two snacks daily

Outdoor Education (OEd) Program

Mandatory and optional adventure learning and leadership experiences

Project weeks

Mentorship, travel, and accommodation where relevant

Student and school initiated core clubs and activities*

Service, arts, and physical activities

Field trips & excursions

Curricular and co-curricular

Pastoral and wellbeing Support

Advisory and counselling

Comprehensive health services

National health insurance, annual health check, flu shot, hospital visits, and over-the-counter medicine

Once a student joins ISAK, they can take part in everything the school offers, with no financial barriers within the program.

In rare cases (fewer than 5% of activities), a small student contribution may apply, such as optional ski or snowboard trips or private club memberships where a standard alternative exists. Students on significant financial assistance can request support for these.

Our Commitment
to Access

Approximately 70% of ISAK students receive some level of financial support. That figure is not incidental. It reflects a deliberate choice to build a community defined by diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences, not by a family’s ability to pay full fees.

This is what makes ISAK different from most international schools. Socioeconomic diversity is not a side program. It is central to the educational model. Students learn alongside peers from families across the full income spectrum, and that shapes how they understand the world.

VALUE BEYOND FEES

Investment in UWC ISAK Japan is not just in education; it’s in a transformative experience that shapes character, leadership, and purpose.

Our graduates leave with the skills and perspectives to contribute meaningfully to a complex world, as part of a lifelong global network committed to making a difference, and developing life-long relationships.

How Financial Assistance Works

Who can apply

Financial assistance is open to all applicants for Grade 10 direct entry, regardless of nationality. It is not available to students applying through the Global Selection Programme (GSP). Students applying through a UWC national committee for Grade 11 entry should contact their national committee directly.

Need-based, not merit-based

All assistance at ISAK is based on financial need. We do not offer academic or merit scholarships. Awards range from partial support to full assistance and do not need to be repaid.

How need is assessed

Our Financial Assistance Office reviews each family’s full financial picture: income, assets, expenditures, debt, number of children, and any school or university fees currently being paid. All information is treated as confidential.

When to apply

Financial assistance is part of your admissions application. A Financial Assistance Request Form, completed by a parent or guardian, must be submitted before the application deadline, along with supporting documents such as a tax return or official income statement. The deadline is the same as the main application.

When you will hear back

Financial assistance offers are announced at the same time as admission decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Except in extremely rare circumstances, our financial assistance does not cover flights to/from Japan, pocket money and other incidental expenses.

Students can expect to receive the same level of assistance during their time at UWC ISAK Japan, provided that they fulfill their responsibilities as a student and as a member of the school community. Academic performance, maintenance of strong character and cooperation within the school community will be taken into consideration for the continuation of financial assistance. If a student does not meet his or her responsibilities, UWC ISAK Japan has the right to withdraw financial assistance in subsequent years. Additionally, financial assistance may be reduced or denied if a student/family demonstrates a lifestyle that greatly exceeds the financial resources indicated on the Financial Assistance Request Form.

Yes, all financial assistance recipients will re-submit their financial data for review for each subsequent school year. In general, students will continue to receive the same level of financial assistance during their three years of school. Specific award amounts will be determined based on changes in a family’s income and expenses from year to year.

No. If you expect that you will need financial assistance in order to cover the cost of your education, you must apply for financial assistance when you apply to Grade 10. Recently, we have seen an increasing number of students requesting financial assistance from Grade 11. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate such requests unless there has been an extreme change in a family’s circumstances.

No. The financial assistance awarded by UWC ISAK Japan is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. However, we do expect families to contribute as much as possible toward their child’s education in order for us to share our financial resources among all students with need.
