With transformational leadership at our core, at ISAK, both in and beyond the classroom,

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year curriculum completed across Grades 11 and 12. Students choose six subjects, one from each of the six subject groups, at a mix of Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL). Three subjects are taken at HL and three at SL. In addition to their six subjects, full diploma candidates complete three core components: Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) Projects, the Extended Essay, and Theory of Knowledge.
Leadership Projects in Grades 11–12 are classified as CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) Projects. CAS is the component of the IB Diploma that takes learning beyond the classroom. Students design and carry out projects that reflect genuine initiative and commitment. At ISAK, many students build their CAS projects directly from the leadership and innovation work they began in Grade 10, extending real-world partnerships or developing independent initiatives with community impact.
Our mission is to make ISAK a place where taking action becomes the norm, and where every student has the courage to turn "zero into one." We hosted Entrepreneur Weekend twice during our Grade 10 year, bringing together ISAK students and middle and high school students from across Japan to develop startup ideas over three days, with mentorship from professional entrepreneurs. As we moved into Grade 11, we began sending Grade 10 students to Startup Weekend events in Tokyo and Nagoya, creating a cycle where students pass down the mindset of leadership to future cohorts.

Our school's manually-operated panel heaters for room heating have low fuel efficiency because they have no algorithm regulating their heat output and stay on even when nobody is around. Project H-RACS provides an IoT solution to automating these radiators. This efficiently uses fuel, not only decreasing heating cost, but also maintaining a temperature that is just-right for the classroom. By using our resources more efficiently, project H-RACS is creating a more sustainable school.
We are ISAK Sports CAS, aiming to promote physical education and sports in various forms of events and activities in the school, as well as locally in Japan. As student athletes at UWC ISAK Japan, our belief is that taking part in sports will have significantly positive impacts on individual health and ISAK's sense of community. We hope to increase the quantity and quality of opportunities for individuals to showcase their skills in various sports as well as raise school spirit in the process.
The Extended Essay is an independent research project of up to 4,000 words. Students choose their own topic, work with a faculty mentor, and submit the completed essay to IB examiners for external assessment.
ToK is a course that asks students to examine how we know what we know. It draws on examples from across subject areas and requires students to submit an essay for external assessment. At ISAK, the diversity of the student body makes ToK discussions particularly rich, with students regularly drawing on different cultural, linguistic, and disciplinary perspectives.
