UWC ISAK Japan accepts direct applications for Grade 10 entry each year. Students who join in Grade 10 complete our full three-year program, including the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12.
To apply for Grade 10 entry, you must meet both of the following criteria at the time of application:
If you do not meet both criteria, we are unable to accept your application for Grade 10 direct entry. Students in Grade 8 or younger should check back when they are eligible and register for our mailing list to stay informed about events and key dates.
Most students applying for Grade 11 entry do so through the UWC national committee in their country of residence or citizenship. Contact details and eligibility information vary by country. This option allows you to apply for financial assistance.
The GSP is open to students who are able to pay full school fees. Financial assistance is not available through this pathway.Â
Please note that we do not accept applications for Grade 12 entry or mid-year transfers under any circumstances.
We do not accept direct applications for Grade 11 entry. If you are currently in Grade 10 and wish to apply to a UWC school for Grade 11, there are two pathways available. You can only apply through one pathway per year.

There is no single profile of a UWC ISAK Japan student. Our community brings together young people from many different backgrounds, countries, and life experiences. In general, we look for students who:
Each year, we accept approximately 48 students for Grade 10 direct entry and 50 students for Grade 11 entry through national committees and the GSP. Approximately 30% of Grade 10 students are Japanese citizens or residents. The remaining 70% join from countries around the world.
All classes at UWC ISAK Japan, with the exception of Japanese and foreign language studies, are conducted in English. You do not need to be a native English speaker, but you should have completed at least three years of English study and be able to speak, read, and write at an intermediate level.
We do not require English language test results as part of the application. However, the following scores give a general indication of the level we look for:
Grade 10 is a foundation year that gives students time to build their English skills before starting the IB Diploma Programme. If you have never attended an English-medium school, this year provides important preparation.
