Greetings from Karuizawa!
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! ISAK is in its third year, and we finally have all three grades on campus! For the first time in ISAK’s history, we have more returning students/faculty/staff than new ones, and this has made a big difference in terms of integrating new members into the community. It’s very exciting!
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. McGibbon and our returning students, we’ve started the school year with an orientation program to help all students, new and returning, transition to ISAK. It’s going really well. Our returning students have done a phenomenal job of taking the lead and responsibility for many of the elements of the program. It’s been fantastic!
Last week we had warm (sometimes hot) weather and sun, and on Thursday when our new students arrived, the day started out hot and sunny and gradually became foggy and stormy. It was quite dramatic! The last few days have alternated between sunny and rainy, and hot and cool. All in all, it’s a pretty typical summer for Karuizawa.
This week students are continuing to learn about ISAK’s leadership program, and are slowly being introduced to the academic program. New students are taking placement tests and going to the bank, town hall and grocery store. Our returning students are busy helping the new students and preparing for their new classes. Everyone is getting to know their room- and house-mates, and tackling the task of getting settled into their houses.
Classes start on Monday, August 29 and our teachers are looking forward to starting classes and getting to know our new students.
Please enjoy the photos below — all of them were submitted by students. And, please be sure to check the website regularly for updates on what’s happening on and around the school. ISAK’s Facebook and Instagram accounts are also good places to stay connected with the school.
