Last weekend, Mr. Iwata (Iwata-sensei) led his first excursion of the school year to Kusatsu (草津町 ). Located about 40 km from ISAK in the Gunma prefecture, Kusatsu is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resort areas. Students took a dip in the natural, healing hot spring baths at Yubatake, one of the biggest hot springs in town. Afterward, it was time to stroll through town and sample various town treats, including soba flavored ice cream!

By offering trips to different destinations every few weeks, Mr. Iwata hopes to give students many opportunities to experience Japan’s unique culture, history, traditions and food.
